In LIKE BUG JUICE ON A BURGER, the sequel to LIKE PICKLE JUICE ON COOKIE, Eleanor is off to summer camp. At first she’s excited to carry on the family tradition at Camp Wallumwahpuck, but when she gets there she finds icky bugs, terrible food, and worst of all… swim class, where she just can’t seem to keep her head above water. But as the days go by, Eleanor realizes that life offers happy surprises even when it feels full of belly flops.

REVIEWS

“[LIKE BUG JUICE ON A BURGER] has the heft and substance of a chapter book but is surprisingly accessible. … Eleanor doesn’t just survive, she grows. Readers will celebrate and look forward to more.” –Kirkus Reviews

“Sternberg gets all of the details exactly right.” –Horn Book

“This is a really sweet novel in verse and a good sequel to LIKE PICKLE JUICE ON A COOKIE (Abrams, 2011), though it works fine as a stand-alone.” –School Library Journal

“Eleanor’s tentative yet heartfelt voice comes through as clearly as [in LIKE PICKLE JUICE ON A COOKIE], with the short, ragged-right-margin lines as approachable as her personality. Sternberg is particularly deft at leaving young-reader-sized room for interpretation and extrapolation…. Cordell’s squiggly, energetic line drawings are rich with sympathy as well as humor. …[F]ans of Eleanor from her first outing will definitely want to follow her to camp.” –The Bulletin of the Center for Children’s Books

“This sequel to LIKE PICKLE JUICE ON A COOKIE (2011) is just as endearing and wise, illustrating how small triumphs can help children survive what, at the time, seems an insurmountable trial.” –Booklist online

“LIKE PICKLE JUICE ON A COOKIE and LIKE BUG JUICE ON A BURGER are quiet stories of small triumphs featuring the kind of kid and plot you don’t see too often, and for that I love them (and the sometimes difficult Eleanor) all the more.” –books4yourkids.com

“I think young readers are going to love LIKE BUG JUICE ON A BURGER too–maybe even more than the first one.” –bookingmama.net

“LIKE BUG JUICE ON A BURGER is a great follow-up to LIKE PICKLE JUICE ON A COOKIE, and I hope we’ll see Eleanor conquer more of her fears in future stories!”
